FLY FISHING

Aside from the spectacular diversity of fauna and flora that inhabit the countryside of Stoffberg, Valley of the Rainbow Flyfishing Estate and Nature Retreat has the Witpoort River flowing through the property. The estate is in a malaria and bilharzia-free area, with a mild climate, and guests can experience fly-fishing in rivers and lakes surrounded by indigenous forests. This river feeds five large dams around the estate, stocked with Brown Trout and Rainbow Trout.

With free informal fly-fishing lessons as well as more formal lessons (on request), Valley of the Rainbow encourages guests to make the most of the adventures offered on the estate, including fly fishing. All the dams and rivers on the property can be accessed for fly-fishing during summer months, while only selected sections of the river will be opened during the winter months due to our stocking program.

Guests can bring along their own rods or rent fly fishing rods (including one fly) at the reception. Management can also give advice and suggest the best flies for the environment and show a selection of flies that are available for purchase. Fly fishing is catch-and-release with barbless hooks. When practicing catch-and-release, please remember to flatten the barbs on your hooks, and wet your hands thoroughly when handling and releasing the fish. Please ask management to weigh and price the fish that is taken.
